Hybrid and electric cars and trucks are all the rage in the automotive industry today. But technology is ever-changing so just what will tomorrow bring? Perhaps self-driving cars will be the latest trend and area of innovation. A concept car called the Rinspeed XchangE could be the high watermark in self-driving car design thus far. Never heard of Rinspeed? They're a longtime manufacturer and tuner of premium (mostly European) vehicles.

The XchangE takes the body of a Tesla Model S and completely revamps the sedan's already ravishing interior. How drastic are the changes? According to Green Car Reports, the XchangE has seats that "have been redesigned to slide, tilt and even swivel to positions more suitable for non-driving pursuits." 

"Autonomous cars no longer require drivers to watch the road, so there's an opportunity to make more meaningful use of their time," Rinspeed chief executive Frank Rinderknecht says.

Basically you can be button mashing your PS3 controller whilst trying to beat "Injustice: God Among Us" while heading to work on a 32-inch 4K TV. That's dope. Or perhaps you could actually get your work done in the mobile office, but who wants to do that? However you decide to spend your time it will definitely be more appealing that driving in stop-and-go traffic every single day. 

If you just want to kick back, the 358 LED lights installed on the roof of the XchangE will change into a more relaxing color. If you get thirsty you can use the included expresso machine. They really did think of everything.

Rinspeed isn't alone in their pursuit of the future. Other, much larger companies, are looking into self-driving car technologies. Google and Nissan are pumping a good chunk of money into making these cars a reality by the late 2010s/early 2020s. If in ten years consumers can stroll up to a dealership and buy an autonomous vehicle outright that'd be miraculous.

Self-driving technology all sounds on the up and up, but one thing hasn't been explained well enough yet. What happens if your car has an accident, are you at fault if your car's computer-aided driver crashes? And will car insurance be cheaper or more expensive for self-driving cars?
